Using the most up-to-date clinical research while drawing upon the age-old wisdom of folk medicine, H-Regulator is specially formulated with soy isoflavones (a natural oestrogen alternative) and chasteberry to provide a natural, healthy and safe means of relief from the unwanted effects of PMS and menopause. Taken daily, H-Regulator provides an effective, long-term management solution for female health from pre-menopause into later life.
VITEX AGNUS-CASTUS FRUIT (CHASTEBERRY)
Attracting considerable interest from pharmaceutical companies in recent years, chasteberry, a shrub native to the Mediterranean, Central Asia and the Americas, has been recognised in folk medicine for its beneficial properties since times dating back to its mention in Homer’s Iliad (6th Centry BC).
Clinical trials have shown treatment with chasteberry to provide relief for women suffering from the symptoms of PMS and menopause-related distress. In several double-blind, randomised, placebo-controlled studies, chasteberry has mediated significant improvements in irritability, mood alteration, anger and headache in women relative to placebo controls.
Studies have also shown chasteberry to provide relief from the common female symptoms of bloating, general oedema and mastalgia (breast tenderness), providing evidence for its beneficial regulatory effect on hormonal levels prior to, during and post menopause.
Chasteberry has been used for irregularities of the menstrual cycle, premenstrual complaints, and mastodynia. The inhibitory effects of chasteberry on prolactin production are suggestive of its function as a dopamine D2 receptor agonist, a function further supported by chasteberry's beneficial effects on PMS and menopause-related symptoms of irritability, mood, emotion and headache. Chasteberry has the ability to activate u-opiod receptors, thereby mediating analgesic effects during PMS and menopause.
SOY ISOFLAVONES
Soy isoflavones are a type of phytoestrogen – are a plant-derived family of several subgroups of molecules. These compounds can bind directly to cellular oestrogen receptors, and can act as selective oestrogen receptor modulators (SERMs), essentially meaning that they may mediate oestrogenic activity in certain parts of the body, but not in others. In recent years, research on the protective effects of phytoestrogens has focused primarily upon the isoflavone subgroup of these compounds, with studies showing isoflavones to ameliorate the severity and occurrence of menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes, as well as mediating beneficial effects on the cardiovascular system. Yet, perhaps most importantly, phytoestrogens do not appear to mediate the negative reproductive effects experienced with chronic oestrogen therapy, and do not seem to increase the risk of endometrial or breast cancer, making them a safe therapeutic choice for the management of menopause.
Soy isoflavones may decrease bone turnover, and chronic supplementation with soy isoflavones may lessen the effect of post and peri-menopausal bone loss, by increasing gastrointestinal calcium absorption in a manner similar to oestrogen.
